Get some
background on what makes Trevor...Trevor. Learn about the big
fella's upbringing and what his family is like. This is a good page
to learn about Trev when the pads are off. If you already know
Trev, then this is old news. If not, enjoy.
Trevor Laws was
born in Dayton, OH back in June of 1985. Trevor was born to Paul
and Yevetta Laws. This was their first child, but Yevetta had a
child from a previous marriage...that kid being Drew, Trevor's
older brother.
From the beginning, Drew and Trevor were two peas in a pod. Drew would play with Trev whenever possible and sometimes even make him cry from getting too rough.
Two years later, Daniel was born and the family was complete. The three bros were constantly together, whether it was playing football in the front yard, or busting out walls inside playing nerf basketball...the boys were inseparable.
As the boys grew up, they stayed very close. Trevor became engrossed in sports of all kinds. Daniel played sports as well, but he was more interested in the extreme variety like skateboarding and snowboarding. Drew was busy playing hoops and hanging out.
Once Trevor got into middle school, he quit basketball and picked up wrestling based on the suggestion by a coach. It probably changed his life.
Trevor blew up in high school in both wrestling and football.

Trev, Dan and Drew at OBX in 2003
Trevor dominated
in wrestling, which made him tougher and more aggressive for
football. It also helped him with his leverage. All of these skills
translated to the football field.
He finished his high school career in wrestling with the highest winning percentage of any wrestler Apple Valley had ever seen. His career record was 139-5. He was a three time All-American and at one point rated the #1 heavyweight in the nation. He also owns several other wrestling records at Apple Valley. Some said that wrestling was actually Trevor's best sport, but Trevor's true love was football. Trevor would always say that he wrestled to get in shape for football.

Trevor's
football career was also in full gear.
He ended up being the Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year his Senior year. He was also named to the USA Today All-American team.
Trevor and his family visited a few colleges the summer of his junior year. He wanted to stay in the midwest, so they were mostly Big Ten schools. Then the letter from Notre Dame arrived. They were obviously a big name, but honestly the family had never really given them much thought. The family wasn't true ND lovers from the beginning, so they started this whole process in last place.
It's funny how a visit can change things.

Trevor was
recruited by Greg Mattison and Tyrone Willingham. They were both
great guys who made a connection with both Trevor and his family.
During Trevor's unofficial visit there, he and his family were
treated like royalty. The values and ethics that Notre Dame and
this coaching staff stood for were everything that Trevor believed
in. He committed that weekend before leaving South Bend.
Trevor went on to have an excellent career at Notre Dame, highlighted by his senior campaign where he led the team in tackles with 112, one shy of the Notre Dame all time record for a defensive lineman. Going to Notre Dame was one of the best decisions Trevor ever made. He made lifelong friends, played football for the best college in the nation and opened doors that he might not have if he had gone somewhere else. It was a grand 5 years.
